Rubie Green
Currently, my latest obsession is finding fabric for my dining room chairs. I have the giant obstacle of working with pink and green Osborne and Little floral wallpaper and a huge oil on canvas pink screen of Marilyn Monroe painted by my grandfather. As I adore this painting (it takes up an entire wall…and it is bubblegum pink) I am finding it hard to find a fabric that doesn’t detract from or clash with it. I canvas the internet and all of my favorite design mags constantly for inspiration…and yet I have not been able to commit to a fabric (by the way, it’s been 2 years of searching). At last, my search is over and I could not be more thrilled. For one, the fabric I have chosen is a perfect addition to my dining room and will work beautifully with my obstacles…secondly, the fabric is eco-friendly!!! The company is called Rubie Green. It’s founder Michelle Adams (of NY) could not be more obliging and efficient…I asked for a sample and received it the next day. All of her incredible fabrics are 100% certified organic cotton and are whitened with peroxide instead of bleach, printed with non-toxic water-based inks, and are finished with heat and pressure instead of chemicals…The best part is that the fabrics are stunning!! Reminicent of Madeleine Weinrib and David Hicks—-Michelle just gets it! Her website launches in mid June, so check it out http://www.rubiegreen.com I can’t wait to cover my georgian chairs with this very current and environmentally friendly fabric..and I might just finish it off with a nailhead trim!
