Top Ten Trends for Fall
1. Exotics
Skins are big for bags, shoes and most accessories…invest in something exotic. If you’re afraid to wear it, buy snakeskin votives for your home.
2. Pants
Last year was all about the dress. This season pants are huge!! High-waist, wide-leg, slouchy menswear…even the skinny jean. Invest in wide-leg jeans or tweed trousers to update your wardrobe.
3. Gray
Redundant but still very now! Gray is the big color (or non-color) for fall. Any shade of gray will suffice.
4. The Suit
The suit has come back: Everyone must own some variation of the suit. It could be a lean pant suit, an hourglass jacket and skirt, or even a sweater and pants/skirt in the same color—belt the sweater for good measure.
5. Plaid
Put plaid is your closet this fall. It could be as simple as wearing a plaid scarf or lining your jacket in it. Be very daring in a plaid skirt with great riding boots and a chunky knit sweater.
6. Military Inspired Trench Coats
Trench coats are still big, but to be really on the edge of fashion, buy a trench with big brass military buttons, or a drop waist. To incorporate another fall trend, line the trench in plaid!
7. Braids
Everyone is wearing their hair in braids…loose braids, school girl braids, braids twisted and put into an up-do, and even the very retro French braid. If your hair is shorter, try a side part with one braid in the front.
8. Detail
Fashion seems to have concentrated on the details this fall: feathers, sequins, paillettes, buttons. Prada, Balenciaga, and even The Gap have all added lots of extras to their lines.
9. Leather Furniture
If you are looking for a way to update your home this fall, leather furniture is back in a big way. It’s moved away from stuffy tufted red upholstery (think clubroom sofa) to a sleeker appearance in fresh colors like a shiny robins’ egg blue. Leather furniture is coming in all colors and shapes, and is quite comfortable and wears well too.
10. Hats
Men and women both can pay attention to this trend. (Notice our cover girl) This is not for the timid, so if this new trend of wearing bowler’s or wide-brimmed hats is not for you, look for a great chunky knit cap for the impending cold weather.
