If we had a chance to attend prom again—and we thank our lucky fairy godmother we don’t—we’d change a sequin or two, that’s for sure… Reap the benefits of our high school hindsight.
Top 10 Tips for Prom Queens in the Making
10) Don’t let your boyfriend wear a blue tux unless he’s known as Mr. Irony at school.
9) Don’t wait until the last minute to find great shoes for your dress. You might have to resort to the overnight dye-job technique—results typically tragic.
8) Don’t buy high heels that hurt as soon as you put them on. By the end of the night, your feet might be sore from dancing anyhow…but why start out aching?
7) Don’t try a brand-new hairstyle day of. You might experience bouffant-maximus, condition in which wearer finds self stuck with hairspray clots and no alternative but medicated shampoo.
6) Do be more playful with jewelry options tonight—fun costume jewelry enlivens a simple lackluster prom gown in a magic-wand whisk.
5) Do try new makeup during the month before prom. It’s fine to opt for extra eye color the night of, but you don’t want to overdo.
4) Do make the night as much about your good friends as it is a date night for you.
3) Don’t go too low-cut (if only for Mom’s sake). Don’t go too god-awful tight(see shoe rule).
2) Don’t let your mother dictate your dress choice, eyeliner look, etc., either. Describe for her your vision of the night, and see if you guys can’t compromise.
1) Do remember this: You’re young! Nothing sags! You look great without trying! So, don’t gild the lily tonight…and don’t blow the bank. Be your regular self plus a few added sparkles, and you can’t lose.
