Get into the spirit of the fall fashion season at the Ladew Topiary Gardens’ fall fashion show, October 25 and 26. The event, in honor of Ladew’s 35th anniversary, kicks off with a lecture by Paper Doll Editor-at-Large Mary Ellen Brown, followed by lunch and a fashion show featuring Luli, a line by Baltimore native Becky Hathaway. Becky’s chic, sophisticated collection comes from around the world and runs the gamut from unique (mink-trimmed embroidered tunics) to classic (silk wrap blouses, velvet pants). Clothes will be available for sale in the Ladew Barn Gallery after the show. Tickets are $25 for the lecture and $60 for lecture lunch and the fashion show.
Having suffered a second flood at Mount Washington Mill, Samuel Parker Clothier owner Ken Himmelstein has moved to Lake Falls Village on Falls Road and will reopen Sept.6. “They say, ‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,’” says Ken, “Hey, I feel like Superman!” The new space will be a welcome addition, especially since Littlefield’s has closed. Owner Sarah Klinefelter decided the time had come to retire. Her store stood out for its selection of cocktail dresses, evening gowns, costume jewelry and the perfect little gift. The store, its staff, and owner will be missed.
Synchronicity is fine tuning its inventory, this time gearing the merchandise to the pre-teen and teen set. Of course, they will still carry crossover brands like BCBG and Betsey Johnson, but the main focus will be girls 7-16, teens and young adults.
New store to check out this season: Amy’s Boutique, 1127 S. Charles Street, Federal Hill. Amy, a former registered nurse, is embarking on her new career following a recent move with her husband to Federal Hill. Just a few doors down from new store Holly G., the store will carry women’s clothing, unique jewelry, gifts, and more.
Stylist Laura Grillo left James Bryan Salon last spring to hang her own shingle in Towson. The salon, called Bliss, is housed in a quaint and cozy space on Allegheny Avenue. And she’s just down the street from the family business: jeweler and gift store Grillo & Co.
Nouveau Contemporary Goods is carrying Jonathan Adler, who began his eponymous line in the 90s with sophisticated pottery. Now he is the lifestyle guru for urban chic hipsters offering bedding in adorable mod prints, geometric needlepoint rugs, modern furniture, his signature pottery and more.
