Dreams take form
Former art director Aimee Bracken dreamed of creating a highly aesthetic shopping experience in Baltimore. In April, she launched Form: A Designer’s Boutique where she sells modern feminine clothing and accessories on The Avenue in Hampden. The vibe is laidback elegance. Look for Vivienne Tam, Vera Wang Lavender, Alvin Valley, and more. On the second floor, Aimee previews new lines and spoils customers with an occasional spa day and private appointments with a personal stylist. Summer stunners: a Vivienne Tam hydrangea-print baby waistcoat jacket with three-quarter-length sleeves ($420); a sweet silk dress in teal by Candela NYC ($385). Average prices: $150-300; remarkably, nothing in the store is over $600. Aimee hopes to design and sell her own clothing in the next two years. 1115 W. 36th St., Hampden 410.889.3116 – http://www.formtheboutique.com
Fine french lingerie… at your fingertips
When Baltimore native Susan Rohr traveled to Paris in 2003, it wasn’t the architecture she fell in love with, but the exquisite lingerie. Susan discovered different, more intelligent sizing (including extra small to extra large underpants) and extra-special designs and fabrics. Now, lucky for us, she runs her own online lingerie business from Baltimore, a la Mod Body: Chic, Sophisticated, European Lingerie Stylings. The name says it all. Susan imports pieces from fine Parisian boutiques but also buys from all around the globe, if the notion strikes her. Sumptuous quality is the deciding factor. Underpants run from $40-90; bras $50-160 and camisoles $35-125. http://www.alamodbody.com
Foot jewels
If Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie had blinked her eyes and designed sandals, they might look something like these high-end slip-ons. The supremely feminine Miss Trish of Capri flats, bejeweled with decorative pieces like a seahorse pendant or a clam against a slim peach strap, are a little bit Jeannie, a little bit Indian craft, very island-y and very Palm Beach. The Little Shoebox co-owner Emilie Blaze refers to the Trish sandals as foot candy, and we can see why. The green suede pair with dangling jewels ($485) is delectable. Imagine these sandals with an all-white summer ensemble. Sweet. Another pair, the “Kenya” ($285), shown, is a standout. Available at The Little Shoebox, 7625 Bellona Ave. 410. 825.3191
Italian elegance in a jar
Flavio Davito’s grandmother, Ernestina Pegoraro, was the inspiration when he and wife Brooke started their chic line of children’s clothing Vienitata out of their Towson home four years ago. Ernestina, a native of the Veneto province in Northern Italy, proudly outfitted her family in beautiful, well-made clothing. The Davitos design their exquisite line of simple dresses in fresh prints with her high standards in mind, using only the finest materials. This summer they’ve introduced a gift line of sundresses packaged in a cute jar with a starfish and a hair ribbon, available in three adorable prints. The dresses sell at high-end boutiques across the country. Available at Lord and Lady Bug, Green Spring Station – 10751 Joppa Road, Lutherville 410.832.5437 and Bosom Buddy Bags, The Village at Cross Keys – 5100 Falls Road, Roland Park 410.323.9101. http://www.vienitata.com
