The Great Make-under
We invited natural beauty Edit Barry to undergo a hair and beauty day at Spa in the Valley, at the well-trained hands of Bridget Moran and Stephanie Fearson. Her brand-new look is ultra light right in time for the brightest season going. Steal our technique!

The Great make-underHair Fix
Edit’s very healthy hair, thick, full and curly, was overwhelming her features.

“She came in with an A-frame hairstyle, a tiny little face and all this hair,” Bridget explains.

Stephanie opted for a sleek, modern style, layered around the front. She trimmed about four inches and removed weight from the interior.

“We lightened her up with a bunch of texturized layers,” Stephanie says. “Edit has great cheekbones—Now you can see them!”

Color without Color
“Edit didn’t want to do color, so we chose a Goldwell Clear Elumen gloss, a temporary gloss to give your hair shine and manageability, and help control frizz,” Stephanie says. “It processes as though you’re doing color—It’s nice for people who don’t want to dye.”

“The color gloss actually protects hair from the sun,” adds Bridget. “It lasts about six weeks. It heals damage, adds shine, and controls curl. Plus, it’s environmentally sound. It’s almost like putting suntan lotion on your hair!”

The Great make-underFace Forward
Edit arrived at the makeover with no makeup on her peaches-and-cream face. She typically wears muted gray or brown eyeliner, light mascara and lip gloss.

“My idea was to give her a soft glamorous feel for spring, not overdone but illuminated,” Bridget says. “I used a light tinted moisturizer to color-blend her skin. I don’t want to put more coverage on someone who doesn’t need it.”

Next Bridget applied a soft bronzer pencil as eye shadow and detailed Edit’s eyebrows subtly with brow pencil and mascara.

“Finally, I used just a little smoky purple liner to give her eyes punch,” Bridget says.

On Edit’s lips, she applied nude liner, gloss and a hint of bronzer in the center to make the look pop.
“Giving her a little detail in her makeup makes her look softer—I’d actually call this a make-under,” Bridget adds.

Edit’s Reaction
“The dark eyes were definitely a change. It’s more of an evening look (for me). …I like the super glossy cotton candy CoverGirl lips (for everyday wear). The haircut is beautiful. It looks great straight, and I love to shock everyone with straight hair once in a while. Now when I let my hair dry naturally it has more curl and all the body in a gorgeous, flattering shape!”
