You know the type. She’s addicted to her workout. She never appears to gain an ounce. But it’s not a vanity thing—this woman has the soul of an athlete.
Name: Patti Quicksilver
Age: 49
Occupation: Yoga and spinning instructor
How many hours a week do you work out and what do you do?
Sixteen to eighteen hours a week. I mix-up my workout with outdoor cycling, velocity sports performance training, walking/hiking, treading water, indoor rock climbing and gardening.
What’s your least favorite workout routine? Your favorite?
Step aerobics. My favorite routine would be a 25mi bike ride, treading water and ending the day with yoga.
How do you keep the exercise fun?
Good company, an open mind and a sense of adventure.
What’s your most energizing pre-workout snack?
One-half cup of oatmeal and a cup of warm water with lemon and honey. On the run, I might grab a handful of granola, or a Power Bar.
Are you a protein-head or a carboholic?
My eating strategy is similar to my life and fitness strategy. It’s all about balance, healthy choices, and enjoyment.
Which part of your body is consistently the worst trouble zone? Which part has always been easy to keep firm?
My thighs have a tendency to get overly muscular. My abs are easiest to keep firm.
Do you compete?
I compete from within.
What’s the best way to bounce back into a workout plan after you’ve been sick or too busy?
I would begin with gentle yoga, walking, and a water workout.
What is your personal mantra: “Attitude of gratitude.”
